Lana and I know logistical planning is critical for a successful hike of the Appalachian Trail. Food, toiletries (TP and Lana’s special shampoo packets🤨) and seasonal equipment would all need to be shipped to prearranged locations along the trail to replenish our supplies. Who’s going to do this? Without a proper support system you are on your own.
Thank God for our wonderful family. Lana and I are fortunate to have Nikki and Paige, our awesome daughters, at home in Salt Lake City sending packages as needed. Likewise, my parents, brothers, sister, and sister-in-laws helped get us started on our adventure and continue to provide encouragement and support.
In preparation for the trip we decided to launch our hike from the Amicalola Falls Lodge. At the lodge, Lana and I with our daughters, grandson, my parents, siblings and their spouses stayed in cabins enjoying each other’s company and celebrating my father’s 85th birthday.
A shout out to my brother Chris and my sister-in law Lisa for shuffling us from the airport to Amicalola Falls. To my brother Tim for making us the most delicious homemade beef jerky to fuel our hike. To my brother Jeff and parents, Jack & Mary for driving us to Springer Mountain, the southern terminus of the Appalachian Trail so that Nikki, Paige and Hayden could hike the first mile with us. And to my sister Barbara for just being you!
Lana and I are truly blessed to have all the love and support of these incredible family members.
